While I have no students with this namesake, I found myself asking myself this question at the beginning of the year trying to keep track of 32 active kiddos. Where the heck are they on campus?! Some students join our classroom just for the afternoon, others leave to go to speech, or band, or the bathroom, or the office, or... How's a teacher to keep up with that and still teach? Outside of putting electronic trackers on their legs, my magnetic board does the trick. Grade five kiddos know their morning kata (routine) is to move their number chip to hot lunch/brought lunch, unpack their backack and prepare for our morning poem. After about 3 days the students have the hang of it and are VERY good at reminder each other when they've forgotten to move their chips. I immediately know who's absent and where everyone is. Win-Win! Thanks pinterest! |
