What fantastic timing for banned books week! My kiddos were absolutely appalled to find out what banning books meant precisely as we studied Galileo and his writings. They were literally outraged that anyone (even the Pope) could dictate who could read what.
I was afraid that I might cause an uprising when I allowed them to extend the conversation (we often get off topic, but I allow it when I feel there is valuable learning happening) and they found out that books still get banned, and even their beloved Harry Potter was once banned.
My hope is not to incense children, but to inspire them and motivate them to think globally, with love, acceptance and peace. Happy Banned Books Week!
